50,000 words--Almost there!

Hello, darklings!

Well! Color me surprised! While the big Amz did not reach out to me as their customer service rep promised, I looked and my book review has finally made it onto the customer reviews page for the book I read. (I wanted to check before I nagged again.) They’ve bought their reprieve from my goblin menace-ness. For now!

With the 50,000 word challenge in a month hurtling toward its finish line, I’m happy to say my muse stayed strong and not only kept pace, but kept me ahead. I’ll also continue fleshing out the story. 50,000 words is usually half, often more a third, of what I generally write novel wise, as my rough drafts have thus far proven, so there is still a great deal more meat to add. Overall, though, this is definitely a ‘successful’ project, in it has potential to be finished, edited, and, dare I say, submitted for publishing. I can’t say that for every November challenge.

I do really have a problem with starting books and not finishing their rewriting and editing, though. Honestly, I gotta stop being so addicted to the rough draft stage. It’s my favorite part, but, man, I also want the satisfaction of a well-finished project. I got some plans brewing to help me get over that hurtle, though, so I’ll be getting to it!

I might not update next weekend, because I am going to be a greedy goblin and work all the overtime this coming week. I’ll still be cooking a bit of turkey, but my self-care this year is staying home and enjoying the holiday with a fat paycheck and eating a small dinner with my pets and the roommate who lives in her tiny house and not worrying about anything else for the nonce.

Sometimes, it’s good to be the hermit.

Much love, corvids. Write hard!

Working On:

Still on my Dracula BS!

Research History This Week That May Have Put Me on a List (or confused whoever monitors me):

  • Alpine climate and temperatures

  • Disturbing 14th and 15th century paintings

  • Relics and artifacts, antique rugs, and preservation

  • British takeout and phrases

  • Spinal injuries and living with paraplegia

  • PTSD and service dogs

Writing Whoops:

  • You know, dysentery is VERY different from dissertation. From what I’ve seen, though, on occasion they both can be a form of diarrhea.

Things my AI bot has overheard:

  • “Yes, Newt, I know those are coyotes. You don’t need to sing with them.”

  • “None of you eight-legged ******* do any house cleaning.”

  • “Ope. Did your butt scare you?”

  • “Shadow! Get out from under the house!”

  • “Poe! Get out from under the house!”

  • “Nyx, don’t even think about it! Get out of there!”

Beasties Update:

Poe, the might mouser

Walking the dogs extra has finally showed one benefit: My blood pressure finally dropped to a healthy level. I’ve been working on that for the past six months after it’s been high consistently for a year. If I can manage it myself without being on medication for it, that’s preferred. Newt seems to be more chill with the extra exercise, too.

Though I do wish she didn’t struggle to get to the mouse Poe caught this evening. Would she eat it if she could? Yes, yes, she would. I definitely need to assure I stay fit enough to keep that and similar atrocities from happening, so I suppose I’ll continue my workouts.

Watching, Reading, Playing:

Nothing at the moment save a few fanfics. Just writing a lot.
