Hello darklings!
Yes, we caught the kittens!
I am taking a short work week without overtime to recoup some energy. I’ll need it for next weekend at Tremendicon, which I’m super excited about!
Cause I work to support my other job (writing), I often kick in a lot of overtime hours to support that and extra things I need. But I also understand that if I burn out, I can’t write. Usually I’m all for working holidays, because I don’t really do anything for them, but this year I’ll be staying off work Monday for Memorial Day, and I have vacation days on Friday, Monday, and Tuesday for Tremendicon.
Balance.
I still struggle with short stories, but recently been attending an event called Whiskey and Words where writers get together at a bar and we do writing prompts. We get twenty minutes to write on a large index card whatever short story pops into our heads. This has helped immensely with my short story block. It’s figuring out how to take snap shots of interesting moments in characters’ lives and events.
So, I got a really neat short story idea to do for a writing contest with the prompt of Ghostly Surprise. I roughed it out, figured out what does and doesn’t work in it. So now to rewrite it. Wish me luck!
Research History This Week: Lipstick shades, nose shapes, mobile military command units, infrared vision, animal spectrum sight, and tips on taming wild kittens.
Beastie Update: All three wild kittens are now no longer so wild! They are adorable little maniacs who’ve quickly come to like their bipedal giants, even purr now when held. The black beastie is going to J. Argo. He is very undaunted by dogs and thus will be a great addition to their household.
Now I just need to find homes for the other two wild things.
Working On: This week I’m working on rewriting a short story rough draft. The challenge is keeping it under 3,000 words for contest entry.
Watching and Reading: I’m still working my way through 9-1-1. I started reading a book, lost interest, so will be picking up another and hope it woos me better.
Write hard, corvids!
