Weird, diverse brains. I love them.

Guys, humans blow my mind. I love our diversity, our physical and neural differences. We’re all so unique, and it’s crazy, and I love it.

We even dream differently. It came up in conversation on Discord yesterday, and I was thrilled at yet another sneak peek into other’s brains.

Example, I don’t lucid dream.

Azura lucid dreams 100% of the time.

I often have darkly themed dreams with danger. Sometimes these are full on nightmares. Azura never has nightmares.

We found the difference interesting, this lack of or utter control in the realm of subconsciousness. One is at the mercy of their imagination while the other can take the reins of their dream character’s fate.

I can only do this if I’m near awake already, and even then the control is spotty. The dream often simply loops as I attempt to get a different outcome with mixed success.

We looked at a few articles concerning the subject, most of them based on how to teach others to lucid dream to mitigate nightmares. We pondered the rarity of someone who lucid dreams consistently, of its therapeutic values, and the different frontal cortex use of dream control. We found ways to test the dream environment to see if one was asleep. (The movie Inception has good examples, but Azura has her own tests.)

Despite these differences in our dreaming, though, one thing we share is how vivid and rich our reverie is. We dream in color, sound, and with plot. Even though Azura is aware she is dreaming, she is often satisfied to let the dream play out and see what her imagination comes up with. We both have swiped ideas for writing from our nocturnal subconscious, wonderful little nuggets to feed our muses.

However, you do not have to be a visual dreamer, lucid or no, to write good stories. This came up as well in conversation. We know fellow fanficcers who don’t visualize at all, everything being worded script in their brain. This doesn’t detract from their creativity in any way. They are fabulous writers! I’m so happy to bump virtual elbows with them.

The differences in how our brains operate is fascinating. Imagination itself is fascinating. We get to see and discuss people’s different creative processes. We each go about it differently. It’s fabulous.

Innovation and creativity makes me enjoy being human. We’re so diversified and weird, and that in itself gives endless creative ideas. Critter featured today is Nyx. She is the most quintessentially feline cat that I know. She is a black panthress who loves her skin. She's just way too cool. Enjoy!
